BlakeMarc > Man, is it ever nice to get good hambagers and spaketty when its been so long! Actually, they turned out to be chicken bagers which were pretty damn good, and the spaketty was also not too bad. This is on the main street in Mae Sai heading towards the border.$1=32 baht
BlakeMarc > Heading North into the mountains on the way up to Pai. After a few delays we ended up leaving later than we had in mind. Dad's bike started to run really bad and evidently used a lot of gas, ended up running out just before dark. No problem though because my bike still had nearly a half tank. So instead of one of us riding to get gas on the bike with nearly 1/2 a tank, we decided to split it up between the 2 bikes. So within 15 minutes we both ran out! Now it is completely dark, not much traffic on the road, in the middle of nowhere up in the mountains. Pefect! Vehicles weren't stopping for us for some reason. Finally an old Toyota truck stopped. He didn't understand a sylable of english though. I point to the gas tank and shake my head "no", i say
-"closest gas this way?",
-"OK"
-"Or maybe go that way for closest gas?"
-"Yes, OK"
So we had it narrowed down, the closest gas was one way or the other. Perfect! Finally i just asked him,
-"I come with you (motioning into his truck) get gas?"
-"OK"
So i get in and he takes me to a few unlikely places, but then we finally find a little variety type store that sells 26oz liquor bottles full. I bought 4 and said i will be right back. I went back to meet Dad who by this time was hanging out with a 1/2 dozen tourist police (who have more power than regular police and speak english). When they got there, they forgot to put on the emergency brake before getting out, and the truck nearly ran over dad's bike. I bet that would have got sticky on dad's part considering he was the only witness. Anyways, once they saw we were gonna be alright they drove off. We drove the 4km to the store and bought about a dozen bottles, and some snacks. Biggest sale of the year probably. We made it the rest of the way to Pai finally.
BlakeMarc > Its in brand new condition and being used for deliveries.WHAT A PRIZE!!!
BlakeMarc > There are a couple cables that are not sloped quite enough so you have to pull yourself backwards the last few metres to the deck. The rope closest to him with the pulley is the harness, and the further one is a "safety",most were worn 1/2 way through because you pull on it as a brake, if you are coming in too fast which you do on a few cables. The alternative would be smacking into the tree at the end of the cable.
BlakeMarc > entering one of hundreds of pretty villages.
BlakeMarc > These beautiful and perfect flowers with thick petals come from an unusual type of grapefruit tree. The smell is amazing, something between a rose, lilacs, and water-lillies.
